Listening

Four Tet — Three

I’ve listened to Three more times than I can count. Each time, I hear something new — a texture I missed, a rhythm hiding beneath the obvious one.

Organic Digital

What Kieran Hebden does better than almost anyone is make electronic music feel alive. There’s warmth in his productions that shouldn’t be possible. Digital precision holding organic breath.

It’s the same thing I try to achieve in photography. Cold structure — the grid, the geometry, the careful composition — containing something human. Something that breathes.

The Lesson

You can be precise without being cold. You can be structured without being rigid. The rules are there to be followed until they’re not.

That’s what Three taught me about making things.
